2017-07-04 Jorge Ibsen (ESO/ALMA, Head of Computing Department)
The ALMA software is an end-to-end package to steer a large system of complex telescopes. It was developed over the course of more than 15 years. Today, when ALMA is starting its sixth observing cycle, it is used on a daily basis for stable operations worldwide and is currently in routine maintenance. Several boundary conditions changed while transitioning from construction to operations and several improvements have been introduced to cope with the new operations regime. This talk will summarise its status, current challenges and future developments posed by an observatory designed to last at least 30 years.
