The Galactic center is expected to be the brightest source of possible dark matter annihilation signal. Several groups have detected an extended excess gamma-ray emission with a peak around a few GeV. In the talk, I will review the recent study by the Fermi Large Area Telescope collaboration of uncertainties of the excess spectrum due to modeling of the Galactic gamma-ray emission. The excess emission remains significant in all models that we have tested. I will discuss possible explanations of the excess, such as the contribution from a population of unresolved point sources, e.g., millisecond pulsars, and dark matter annihilation.
